Welcome to our Website
Friends of Cobbett Road Library (FCRL) is an informal group of people of all ages who met at monthly intervals in the library. FCRL initially came into being to protect a greatly valued community asset and members set about publicising their cause in the local newspaper, putting posters in their windows. With Library staff FCRL organised events, activities and helped to make the library the centre of a friendly and lively local community.
After the Council withdrew from operating six libraries, transferring them to community organisations, FCRL has worked to keep Cobbett Road Library open and welcoming. Together with the Friends of Bitterne Station, we have supported and promoted the local Art Trail. |
NewsLIBRARY OPENING HOURSLibrary service is at Cobbett on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, all from 1pm to 5pm. Since these sessions are all staffed by volunteers, some may have to be cancelled at short notice - please do not be alarmed if you are unfortunate enough to be affected by this. Books which are due back can be posted through the letter box by the front door at any time.
There's a slideshow of facilities and services in our Photogallery. Cobbett Road Library is now leased by the Southampton Veterans Trust. Library Service is provided by volunteers organised by Fiesta 95 FM Community Radio, as one of the City's Community Libraries.
The Friends' Macmillan Coffee Morning, held at Bitterne Station on Saturday 19th, raised a total of £65 for this cancer support charity.
Cobbett Brick ClubThe Autumn Friday Lego sessions for those aged 6 to 13 started on October 2nd. Future dates are October 16th, November 6th and 20th and December 4th, all from 3:45pm to 4:45pm. Full details on the poster below.
